Join me for The Wonky Line Drawing Club, a regular event where we get together and draw!
Session 1: Drawing with a Brush
During this session we will be experimenting with brush drawing so dig out what you've got and we'll have a play together with some drawing exercises. Please use what you have available! That could be a water brush pen or paint brush with ink or watercolour. Maybe you have some inky brush pens lurking somewhere in your art draw? I really like drawing with these Pentel Pocket Brush Pens which make an exciting mark but, as I say, come to the session with what you've got and see what marks you can make and how they affect your drawing!
What is The Wonky Line Drawing Club?
The aim of The Wonky Line Club is to create a time and space to draw with like minded people. During each session there will be theme, a demonstration and then a collection of timed drawing excerises which are guaranteed to get you scribbling whatever stage of the drawing journey you're at. Beginner to pro and anywhere in between, you are very welcome to join in the fun! That's what it will be, fun...not gruelling tasks but stimulating and exciting ways to build your confidence, your practice and a drawing habit.
Drawing together works like magic in so many ways:
- Creative Practice: Putting time aside to draw regularly with fun and accessible exercises aimed at all experience levels. Like playing a musical instrument, regular practice helps you to keep your hand in and pick up your pencil and sketchbook more often!
- Creative Community: Connect with a kind and welcoming group of fellow creative souls from all over the world! Share methods, inspiration and advice
- Creative Self: Giving yourself time to draw is restorative, healing and mindful. More time spent drawing connects you with what you like to draw, your favourite tools and materials.
- Creative Action: Doing rather than thinking! The thinking brain has no place at this class, my friend, as we will be SO busy drawing! During the sessions there will be limitations minimising the materials you need to use and taking away a lot of the decision making process that stops so many of us from actually getting started!
This club is not about doing the best drawings, it's about having fun, learning to sketch and finding your own unique line!
A really effective way to do this is by having fun and returning to activities and exercises that make you feel childlike. The emphasis of these session will be on observational and expressive drawing but we will also play with all forms of drawing including, mindful doodling, abstract drawing responses, collage, and drawing from memory and imagination.
The sessions are 1.5 hrs long
Beginning: A short demonstration and chat about techniques and materials
Middle: 40-50 minutes of drawing exercises working from images on the screen or objects/images in your home.
End: 10-15 mins of sharing of work (optional!)
What do I need to take part?
All the drawing exercises can be done with the most basic of drawing materials. All you really need is a pencil/pen and some cheap copier paper
However, it's a great opportunity to test out drawing with materials that you may have lurking in your art draw. Try drawing with something different at each session and see what happens! Maybe you'll make a groundbreaking discovery about how you like to work and what with!
Useful materials to have:
- A sketchbook or pad with thicker paper
- A soft graphite pencil 2B or softer (I like 6B)
- A brush or brush pens with water or ink
- Indian ink and a dip nib
- Charcoal and or chalk pastel
- Wet media (like watercolour, ink, gouache or marker pens)
- Scissors, glue stick, eraser, sharpener
- Coloured pencils and pens
Is there a recording?
Yes, the class will be recorded and sent out via email the following day.
You will have access to the class recording for 14 days.
**PLEASE NOTE** that these class recordings will not be added to your Wild Ink library and will not be available to purchase in the shop so book on whilst you can!
