In this workshop you will learn to illustrate realistic little bugs to pop into a matchbox, giving the recipient quite a surprise! There will be loads of tips, tricks and cheats on painting and colouring your little bug to give it a really life-like appearance. I will show you how to build your own decorated matchbox in which to house your bug as well as loads of other creative ideas and variations which will most certainly inspire you to create a whole insectorium! What about adding three dimension bugs to little cards and tags? I'll show you my lift-the-flap bug book, too! This is a relaxing a fun workshop suitable for all...and you don't need to be able to draw!

    • Fine liners (waterproof, nib sizes small so 0.1mm or smaller if possible such as 0.05mm) in black

    • Pencil 2B/HB, eraser, sharpener

    • Several sheets of A3 or A4 sheets of watercolour paper OR heavyweight cartridge paper (approx 140-50lb/220gsm) *

    • Scraps of decorated papers, vintage paper, magazines, book pages, coloured paper, newspaper clippings, dried tea bags, brown packing paper etc, washi tape. Gardening magazines and seed catalogues are useful for cutting out flowers and foliage.

    • Gouache paints and/or watercolour. There's room for either/ both in this project however I will be demonstrating using gouache.

    • Mixing Palette

    • Paintbrushes (round, pointed, approx size 4, 2)

    • Coloured pencils (Good Quality)

    • Water pot

    • Kitchen Roll

    • Scissors..the smallest & sharpest you can find! Nails scissors are good!

    • Glue stick or double sided tape

    • Tracing paper

    • White gel pen or Posca paint pen ultra fine 0.7mm ….or just use white gouache and a tiny brush!

    • Ruler

    • Optional: Raised adhesive foam sticky squares, Brown vintage style labels, card blanks, sketchbook
